Car polish is a must have product in your car care inventory. The reason is simple; everyone loves a shiny car and a good polish helps you get the brand new look back. Other than appearance, car polish functions as paint protection and prevent premature failure of car paint. Bird poo, oil, dust and grime are some of the pollutants that accumulate on the outer surface of a car over a period of time. Nearly all of these pollutants are acidic in nature, not easily washable and due to their corrosive properties, cause the paint to fail exposing the bare car metal below. Bare metal corrode easily leading to rusting of the car, reducing its life and resale value. There are numerous car polishes in the market with a varying number of ingredients. Almost all car polish has abrasive ingredients which help dislodge those hard to remove oil and grime spots. Some car polish products also include filler agents to fill in the gaps left by scratch marks.
Polishing a car is an involved process, a practiced procedure really. The first step is to wash the car . This is a two step process starting with plain water, then with car detergent. Never use your household detergents as they are too strong leading to removal of paint. The third stage is to again wash off the car detergent with plain water. Use a chamois leather car towel or a micro fiber car towel to dry your car. Having done that put the car polish evenly with an applicator brush which usually comes with your car polish product. There should be no gaps in the application of the car polish. Leave the car polish to dry off for the time period specified as per the car polish manual of instructions. Then rub it off with a micro fiber towel to give you a good glow and a brand new look car.
The various components in the car polish perform different tasks such as dissolving and removal of oil and grime by the abrasive part and the shine and protection task done by the wax component. The water repellant property of the wax component helps protect your car paint from water. How often should you polish your car? A two to three week interval is recommended between car polishing. This is because every car polish has an abrasive component which acts by removing microns thick layer of paint to reveal a shiny layer and thus over time leads to the paint thinning and becoming dull. So a sensible interval between polishing is a must.

You need to bear a few things in mind while using car wax. First wash your car thoroughly with clean water by using a hose and care should be taken that you keep the windows closed. Then wipe your car dry with the help of a dry cloth and if your car has a lot of dirt or soiled portions then you should do the process twice. Dry again by wiping with another dry cotton cloth. Take another dry clean cloth and using the appropriate car wax for your car and buff it all over.

You must have always tried giving a shinny look that was only limited to show cars. Gone are the days when such polishing was only restricted to the large car dealers. Modern technology has led to the evolution of car wax that is cheap to produce. It is due to the mass production that the car wax is widely available to every one. Unfortunately, the overproduction has provided an opportunity to the con artists.

It is probably more important than waxing it, especially if you live in an area where the roads are treated with salt in the winter. I like to add washing my car to my weekly routine. I save up quarters in the car that I get as change and use them to run through the car wash. It does not cost much and only takes about five minutes per week, but it will add so much life onto the car. Let’s get back on task to car polishing, though.
