A non abrasive car wax should be used so that the paint glistens after waxing and the surface is scratch free. Dark colors clear coats and lacquer paints react badly to an abrasive car wax. To preserve the painted surface of a car for a longer period it is recommended that the car wax be applied every three months. Car wax assists in removing spots on the paint of the car better than water does. Car wash Car wax must be wiped off with a soft cloth to prevent a streaky effect. Spray on waxes were the least durable and did the worst job at cleaning, but they were also the quickest and easiest to apply. Consumer Reports recommended them mainly for new cars whose finishes were in excellent condition, for owners who were willing to wax frequently, and for stopgap treatments in between treatments with liquid or paste wax. Paste waxes took about as long to apply as liquid waxes, and were about as durable. Consumer Reports noted that while paste waxes used to be difficult to apply, they now come with applicators that make them even easier to apply than liquid waxes.
Consider whether color or shine is more important to you, whether you will need a wax that works well with plastic, how much time you can spend on waxing, and how often you plan to reapply wax.

Use clean parts of the towel to buff, to make sure accumulated wax does not end up back on your car.
Use the opportunity to inspect your car, as you wash and put on car wax. Things that start small can easily become corroded or damaged. Take your car to a body shop to have those small things repaired, or do it yourself. Additionally, make sure you keep up with all your maintenance schedules and stay on top of repairs.

This is a two step process starting with plain water, then with car detergent. Detergent used for washing clothes are never to be used as they are strong and may damage your car paint. Having washed your car with a car specified detergent mix, wash again with plain water and let the excess water fall off. Use a chamois leather car towel or a micro fiber car towel to dry your car. Having done that put the car polish evenly with an applicator brush which usually comes with your car polish product.

Have you ever seen a faded out old car? If it had been kept up with car wax, it would have kept its original shiny finish. When your car is not protected, the sun and oxygen can cause the paint to oxidize and fade.
So what is the deal on car wax? Is car wax the same thing as polish? Use some caution when you purchase your car wax. Polish is not the same thing as car wax. Polish has an abrasive in it that can damage your car if you do not follow up with car wax.

Before waxing, park your car on a cool spot away from the rays of the sun and never expose it to cold weather.
The Steps
Use a damp wax sponge by applying a large coin sized wax in small circles. Apply wax to different sections but remember the path you took. Be careful when applying wax near the joints of car doors and hood as the accumulating wax can harm the levers. The next step is to wipe off the wax by a clean cotton cloth.
